Associated provides security for V Formation at Riverfest 2007
WICHITA, Kan. – May 11, 2007 – In an effort to shield Riverfest spokesducks Drake, Titus and Gaven—members of the wildly popular rock band V Formation—from a flock of their enamored fans, Associated Advertising provided security guards to walk alongside the ducks’ tour bus in the Riverfest 2007 parade.
 Riverfest ranks as one of the nation’s largest community festivals, enjoyed by hundreds of thousands from the Midwest each year. Associated, who created the ducks to lead this year’s Riverfest marketing campaign, participated in the Sundown Parade that launches the festival by providing a tour bus for V Formation … as well as the heat.
Two Associated employees posed as security guards and walked alongside the bus for the length of the parade route.
“The ‘security’ t-shirts were just way cool,” says Associated CEO Mike Snyder. “We do enjoy a close connection to our work, but I believe this is the first time we’ve provided personal security for a client.”
In spite of an attempt to board the bus by a gaggle of admirers—resulting in a few ruffledfeathers—the parade passed smoothly for the ducks.
“We had decoys on hand just in case the guards’ presence wasn’t enough, but we didn’t have to resort to that,” says Snyder. “I’m just glad that it wasn’t open season on waterfowl—it could have had an entirely different ending.”
